New Mexico: La Posada de
Santa Fe Resort & Spa
by Lynn Lamousin
Atlanta Citymag, July 2000
A diverse landscape of desert dunes scattered with remnants
of the Rocky Mountains, is the beautiful backdrop for the luxurious
La Posada de Santa Fe Resort & Spa. No cold, impersonal steel
and glass structures here. Instead, the rooms in the pueblo-style
buildings are each unique, and offer within the textured stucco
walls and tall-timbered ceilings a charming array of Southwestern
furniture and native accessories, their iwarm palette derived
from the scenery.
The
focal point of La Posada's six acres is the Staab House. Originally
built in 1880, it is now home to the fine dining of Fuego restaurant,
the revelry of Staab House Lounge, and several guest rooms that
sway from the pueblo theme and are decorated in the building's
original Victorian tradition. Cross Fuego's expansive outdoor
dining patio and venture into Avanyu, the resort's full-service
spa that offers exclusive body, nail and hair treatments. Enchanting
accents, including a volcanic rock floor and an immense water
wall, offer a soothing and indulgent environment.
Try the spa's Adobe Mud Wrap for a patented pleasure. The treatment
begins with a dry-brush massage to stimulate and exfoliate the
skin. A thin coating of adobe mud is then applied from temple
to toe; the body is wrapped in a multi-layer cocoon of plastic,
muslin, foil and wool to allow the clay to soak in and nourish
while also releasing impurities. Afterwards, cleansing with a
cactus fiber cloth in a large private shower prepares the skin
for a revitalizing oil massage.
Once you're properly pampered, take a short stroll out of La
Posada's gates to discover a Native American artist market, Georgia
O'Keefe Museum, and the fine art galleries of Canyon Road. If
your travel seems only work-related these days, plan to hold your
next corporate event at La Posada's deluxe conference center.
Offering the perfect mix of local charm and full-service hotel
features, La Posada de Santa Fe exudes a high-class homeyness
that makes this a perfect relaxation retreat.
